No time for lengthy/introspective posts today, so let’s stick to the easy-viewing variety instead! Found this wonderful series “Vintage by Colour” by Hilda Grahnat and thought I’d share a few. (There are some other interesting projects on her site as well.)
I’d love a few of these, but sadly I know myself too well. The inspiration will wain almost at the exact moment I set up the first vintage cookie tin. One day I too will be a wonderfully inspiring creative person who makes cool things. One day.
I found this one through the Wellness Warrior and it got me thinking… (Warning: Might not be ideal for mid-afternoon slumps!)
I’ve done this so many times, and something tells me I’m not the only one.
We create these ideas in our heads of how people will react, what they’ll think, what they’ll say; and often formulate our relationships and friendships around that imaginary idea rather than the real experience. How many times have you filtered what you say or do towards someone through the IDEA of what you think that person is or should be?
And then there’s that other thing we do – the one where you build a picture in your mind and wave aside the real life picture, because you’re gunning for that one you built in your imagination. Even though you know full well that NOTHING in real life is going to look exactly as you imagined it. Nothing. And you know it.
But the imaginary picture is what you’re used to so it feels safer.
Let this be a lesson to me.
Too heavy for a Wednesday afternoon? This was SO not on the blog schedule for this week!
You may have noticed I’m not big on posting outfits.
Initially I thought that was because I don’t like seeing photos of myself, but I’ve realised it’s not even really that. I think style blogs offer a great a space for you to style, photograph and edit your own “shoot” – and publish it to top it all off! – and as such are probably a fantastic creative outlet, but it’s not something that I’ve taken to.
Cue drum roll for the “but”…
I do love a cute find as much as the next girl and spotted a few gems on my roamings round the blogosphere last week, so I thought I’d try something else. Rather than posting my own outfits I’d like to share my favourite outfit posts from last week – by other bloggers, of course!
Love Veronika’s dress! Plus the over-the-knee socks, you know I’ve been waiting for those bad boys to make a comeback since the 90s! Call me Clueless…
Stefany’s outfit is all kinds of cute, but I specifically covet the bag.
The pants are awesome, but more than anything I fell in love with Mel’s blouse.
Necklace posted by Orchid Grey – I WANT.
– My new camera – oh yeah, post coming!
– Watching my friends get married
– Feeling like a super-human for getting out of bed and going to gym during a thunder storm
– Hanging out with my sister for most of Sunday, which includes Simply Asia take-out and wine
– Going out to Rawsonville for a braai in the vineyards with new friends (i.e. spending the evening under the stars and full moon when the moon was closest it’s been to the earth in 22 years).
– Having an extra day of weekend!
– Long distance phone calls with friends. Always good to hear the voice on the other end!
– Replacing my shoes with the wholes in their soles (hehe!) JUST in time for the rainy weather! And now I have dry feet today.
– Also: new warm, fuzzy, comfy slippers. Clearly a lot of foot-love going on.
Thing I don’t love quite so much
– Having an extra day of weekend! It’s made me feel sooo lazy today, and all the extra festivities pack a punch on the waistline…
– Having almost two more weeks at my current job – I really, really want to start the new one now!
– Vampire Diaries. I thought it might grow on me but it’s just not working. And I’m a TV slut who will usually watch absolutely everything.
I had plenty ‘a postin’ planned over the long weekend but evidently that didn’t go according to plan! Which means I now have a gazillion things I want to post and (time-permitting) might be posting a bit more than usual this week. I’ll try to space them out a bit though!
Happy Tuesday peeps! Feel free to post your loves-and-hearts and not-quite-so-muches below 🙂
Workin’ life gets a lil’ monotonous sometimes (I’m hearing a few “yeaaaah”s and “totally”s). I needed a change of pace this week, so to break the monotony I decided to go out during my lunch break every day this week, snap a picture and post them all today.
The whole thing works in theory, except that I came in once to find my battery was flat, and once to find I’d forgotten my camera at home. Not one to let details get in the way, I’m posting the ones I did manage to get anyway!
Do we think this is a real doctor?
Saw these two red scooters standing opposite each other as I was walking down the street. Different generations of the same thing.
You can see the newer Vespa in the background.
Thought this was appropriate as I was “wandel”-ing anyway.
And on that note – happy Friday all! Sooo glad it’s (very nearly) weekend. I’m off to a braai in Rawsonville tonight; have a friend who lives out there on the most amazingly beautiful vineyard, Loraine. Hoping to get there before sunset, enjoy the view, then drink copious amounts of wine and talk shit. Yes.
This might just maybe possibly be the coolest music video I’ve ever seen.
Thanks to super awesome muso friend Em for sharing!
Was supposed to post this yesterday, but internet kept cutting out before I could hit “Publish”. Such is life.
I’m having one of those days where I just want to breathe it all out. Not because anything is particularly frustrating, or because I’m having a bad day (I’m not); I really just don’t feel like being stressed out or dealing with shit today. I’m tired and I don’t want to be bothered with anything too intense.
On days like this I like to browse Audrey Hepburn Complex. She posts daily image finds from across the web and doesn’t stick to any particular style (other than, I suppose, personal taste).

Adds some prettiness to my day – much needed when you’re stuck in an office.
Thought of the day:
I came in to the office this morning, opened my email and worked my way through my inbox. This was exactly what I needed to hear.
